Let me tell you all the ways that I have loved you. In another life, you were the sound of running water I was the ears of a brown bear. I craved the sound because I knew you were life sustenance a solution to a parched throat, empty belly, and filthy fur. In a second life, you were the intermolecular force of attraction. I was all the molecules in all the worlds and you glued me together when I was lost yearning and didn’t even know all the things I could be. My third life you were sun rays—ultraviolet light I could not see you, but I could feel you dancing so you existed across every surface of my being. Rising and setting and rising, and setting blooming ultraviolet lights across me with ferocious consistency. I was thankful to be alive because I knew you would shine on me again. Always rising.
In another life you were soil and I was the root of a great tree who was only a great tree because you existed as a place I could nestle my roots deep. I was sturdy, fed, supported surrounded by your brown nutritious density. In one of many lives, you were a mirror reflecting my face and body back to me. I could see myself large and alive and taking up space. Every fold a collection of time passing my beloved existence compounding. You reflected to me the tenderness of my body and I loved it and loved you because you told me that the image was enough. In this life, I am a walking skin-sack and you are too. You whisper to me that I am worthy, beautiful, the cosmos are a pale imitation of my depth and complexity. I believe you. I believe you because my soul has kept the score of all the years all the lifetimes all the variations of my loving you and you loving me. In any world or any universe any iteration of my being I know I will find you there loving me because I deserve love and there is no greater love than the one that whispers to you in the language of water and ultraviolet rays.

I originally wrote this piece in paragraph form. When I reread it it seemed like it should be a poem. I’m still not sure I’m happy with these line breaks, but I’ve fiddled with them (and punctuation) for days, so I’m releasing it into the Substack Wilderness. I hope you enjoyed it and that you think of it when you’re wrapped up in the throngs of love.
TELL ME:
What is your favorite phrase about love? Which line(s) was your favorite? If you were to describe your love how would you?

Reminds me of a psalm in the Bible - “In the beginning you laid the foundations of the earth, and the heavens are the work of your hands.”
Psalms 102:25 and this one too In Jeremiah 1:5 God says, “Before I formed you in the womb, I knew you; before you were born, I sanctified you; and I ordained you a prophet to the nations.
Found it comforting. Thank you ❤️
This was such a beautiful poem and has me ready to meet the love of my life right neoooow! lol thank you for sharing!
Hmm I would describe my love as a warm feeling that lingers in your soul and lights up the darkest parts of you. It really creeps in when you least expected it and when you need it the most❤️
