I felt this post, and I also am deeply angry with Covid and everything else you listed. But especially Covid! It’s just so damn demoralizing.
On a side note, I would love to hear more about your experience in America as someone who came here in your teens. As usual, thanks for this great read!
Anger is a natural emotion, and you’re correct, to expect black women not to express emotion, is implying that we are less than human - and the idea that society perpetuates that ignorant ass implication induces rage. Thanks for writing this.
Ohhhhh I should’ve thought about the less than human bit!! That’s such a GREAT point and if I ever expand on this piece I’ll be sure to add that in with some literary support. Thank you so much for reading and for your wonderful addition with this comment.
Lately I've been mad about how it feels like we have no choice but to sit back and let our elected officials play in our faces when it comes to .. well, everything.
First time reader popping in to say you weave narrative and history together so seamlessly!! and the Ba Sing Se gif gave me a hearty cynical laugh, so thanks for that lol. You're 100% correct that anger serves an important function -- on top of being a normal human emotion, rage can be a powerful conduit to justice, and that's why the powerful try to train it out of us.
As for your questions... I have less to feel angry about than usual lately bc I've been too swamped to be Plugged In (all good things!!), but I caught wind of the Lunchables thing too and was deeply disturbed. If I think about microplastics too long I'll start squirming out of my skin.
I've been mad at how much lead is in our drinking water.
You and I talk about this a little. The hand of capitalism and racism, like two hands trying to drown you - ambidextrous much. Always appreciate your take - we talk about the disenfranchisement of Black people, but not a lot what is for Caribbeans to deal with it. I can't imagine what my mother had to go through - Black, woman, and no English.
First and foremost thanks for reading!! I am so glad you took the time to not only read but write such a thoughtful response. I love that you’re tapped into good things at the moment. It’s necessary to keep functioning and to just remain sane.
The micro plastics oh the bane of our (and the fishes) existence. I try not to think about it 😭
I’m glad you enjoyed the Ba Sing Se gif. It really was the perfect addition.
I'm actually lunchable-free, but I was just munching on a handful of chocolate and recalling with horror the lead chocolate escándalo from last year. Cuz apparently unleaded humans aren't a thing anymore?

Demoralizing is such a good word for it! Thank you for reading and I will work on some more pieces about that for sure.

FELT THAT DEEPLY! It’s demoralizing and makes you feel powerless. 😒

LEAD LEAD whats up with the lead in everything? 😮💨
Also ugh the two hands analogy is so on point. I will be repurposing!
Navigating this world def gives me a new kind of respect for our parents. God’s strongest and most capable soldiers for real.
When I wrote it I was like yea I need to use that somewhere. Your list is how they kill us, slowly and legally. But we not going to talk about that.
You absolutely should and we def will not… at least not here 🤣
“the machine is so much more layered and efficient here” such a great metaphor. loved this.
Thank you so much for reading 🤝🏾

You had me at lunchables.
And re-racking weights.
And really all of it.
Were you trying to calculate how much lead you’ve eaten from lunchables?? Or are you normal? 🤣 (ps thanks for reading and sharing)
I'm actually lunchable-free, but I was just munching on a handful of chocolate and recalling with horror the lead chocolate escándalo from last year. Cuz apparently unleaded humans aren't a thing anymore?
All things considered we’re significantly less leaded than or 16th century counterparts 🤣
