NJ you donāt miss! Love this piece. Love your writingš§š½āāļøThe line that sticks with me most is
āMost people, when interviewed, state that they would prefer the device to the alternative and, after seeing what you have, do you blame them?ā
After rereading, the āalternativeā is the neural and digital stimming you mentioned, but this sticks with me because I take it as reality being the true āalternativeā. As someone who dissociates as a coping mechanism, choosing between getting to live in my fantasy or living in my reality, itās so easy to choose the formerā¦ but the implications are all held in reality and for me, that sting outweighs the sweetness of fantasy. Itās a crash landing each time I snap out of it.
(This also reminds me of that black mirror episode with the spaceship, so Iām wondering if everyone in SUBS will die in reality? And how will they experience physical death if their mind is in an alternate reality?)
Brianna thanks for reading and your kind words! Reality is the alternative so you did get that right! Neural and digital stimming is what people already do to escape reality (Iād consider this the internet as it currently exists). You are also so right about the crash landing.
I made a post last night about starting a story and feeling like it was bigger than I currently had time to write. This was the story! I wanted to explore some of the things you mentioned such as dying while in SUBS! I wonāt give away too much as Iāll probably circle back to this story but I think the important bit here is that Lotophages is ātrackingā all that stuff. What happens to a brain being tracked in SUBSpace?!! (Hehehe I will need to write it and we will see)
I think for me my favorite part was where everyone was looking for yurtz.
and also those usernames; oh my god! they sent me crying laughing into subspaceš¤£
Yurtz never stood a chance! I had a great time making those usernames up
Iām outside enjoying empty streets and green lights, grass and air, because Iām never going anywhere near SUBS. š
š¤£š¤£š¤£ the correct choice
NJ this is eerie but oh so incredible!
š„¹ thank you Alex truly
